Went to hear them sing tonight. Life changing.  Piercing, beautiful voices. And all I kept thinking was, Jody, these are the voices of your children.

Do You Ever Wonder?

September 20, 2007

Do you ever wonder what happens to people? I took this picture of this little boy almost 20 years ago on a trip to New York City. I never even spoke to him, but loved watching him watch the street performer. I wonder where he is now, if he has a family with a little boy as cute as he was.

My confession for today is that I love my camera. Secretly I want to grow up to be a photographer, but not of normal things or people, just random weird stuff….

‘Spiritual Experience’

September 18, 2007

Had the strangest conversation last night with my old youth group pastor. Came away feeling odd.

He was telling me about him being involved in this movement of christianity. They go around to different places and use, in his words, non-religious talk to get people to engage in a spiritual experience. And that people come back, and bring their friends because they come away feeling so good.

What?

Okay, I am all for feeling good. I am all for having a spiritual experience. I am all for getting people involved. BUT, it doesn’t really seem like a Jesus movement, as he put it. Seems like they are doing a whole lot of masking who they are, in order to get people to experience short term happiness.

Anyway, has anyone else heard of this ‘movement’ going on?

“The story of a love is not important – what is important is that one is capable of love. It is perhaps the only glimpse we are permitted of eternity.” -Helen Hayes

I have recently come to the realization that I was never promised I wouldn’t be lonely, only that I wouldn’t be alone. Never promised I would feel loved, only that I am loved.
